Some of Kofy Brown’s credit include a nomination for best R&B album of the year, California Music Awards; MTV Commercial Promo “SNITCH”, songs on numerous independent films, Gypsy Boys, The Real Thing and the Showtime documentary Butch Mystique, Jumpin’ The Broom and the PBS documentary, “Breaking the Glass”.  Kofy Brown has been written up in several national and international magazines including the Vibe Magazine, Oor Magazine (Netherlands), URB, and USA Today, as one of
today’s emerging artist.  She has also been featured at the prestigious North Sea Jazz Festival, Blue Balls Festival, and many other European and US festivals.

Her focus is derived from the fact that she is a self taught musician who learned her craft from playing in a family band throughout her childhood.  A commanding stage performer, Kofy is an authentic talent who sings, produces and writes all of her own material.  She also plays keyboards, guitar, bass and drums.  Kofy’s voice is velvety and deep with an undercurrent of staccato urgency.  It mesmerizes her audiences while simultaneously sending her message loud and clear.  ”I want people to feel good when they hear us play, or at least feel something…..music to me is about how it makes you emote as a person, that’s where I’m coming from as a performer and songwriter”

Ok maybe this approach is too heady. It’s the feelings. Somber, frustrated disappointed at yourself at times. And music can help you release these emotions. That’s what is has done for me.

This is not an uplifting album, sorry to say. But I was not in a particular uplifting mood in the last few years that this record was created and even longer than that for some of the songs that were written. But I do think it can speak to people who have gone through strife and plain ole bad sh*t in their lives but are still reaching and striving to be positive and more forward.

So for now if you are interested in music that can move you get into your bones and soul, I think you will dig this record. Not just a song or two cause I think this record is at its best when you listen to the whole album in one sitting. You know with headphones on dark lighting and a beer or two or maybe a good glass of wine. Something to vibe to and get into, kinda like a funkadelic experience, but veers off course into a little rock, country funk and soul.

I’ll have the full record available by November 11th at CDbaby, iTunes for download and local Amoeba and Rasputin record shops in the Bay Area. Hopefully we can get this soul rock movement going and spread the distribution out but we have to wait and see. So for an appetizer I am putting out some of the cuts from the record for you to love, hate, ignore or whatever.

Skarlet Stew is my raw and uncut jam. Recorded on my Akai DPS12i at home this track is honest, gritty and raw! Hope you guys dig the vibe and emotion. You know how it is…sometimes your just mad as hell at yourself and just want F@&# some sh*t up. But next is Lost Child which is how I also feel like I just don’t know what’s going on and how to hold it together.

Thanks to anybody involved in this tour, specially to the club-promoters who book us , and to the visitors and fans who support us on the shows. hope to see you back next time.

First of all thanks to everyone who has come out to support us on this tour, your presence at the shows has been awesome!

First off was the Jazzclub in Rorschach, Switzerland- the folks their were very warm, cool and entertaining, for a jazz club you guys danced and partied hard- much love and respect.  Next up was the Romein in Leeuwarden in the northern part of the Netherlands. The club is an old church turned theatre- it is a very beautiful and rustic place.  I don’t think the folks in Leeuwarden were ready for us but by the end of the night we had the whole club singing and feeling like Soul Rock was the place to be- also got a great recording out of the night-THANKS to the sound guys who ROCKED!

Next stop Den Haag! The Paard van Troje was off the hook- over 200 folks came out on a Thursday night to support- Thanks! We always have a good show in Den Haag- Which by the way is where the new CD we are supporting was recorded- Live in the Netherlands: Stompin’ at the Paard! By the end of the night we were completely sold out! That’s right the folks in Den Haag made a statement and hooked us up with some good food and gas money (we really appreciate it)

We stayed in a very cute hotel outside of Den Haag; The Bella Vista which was a very nice and comfortable spot- (being that we had been staying in hostel up until then) nothing like a goon nights sleep to get your energy up.

So we had a long drive ahead of us to get to Zurich, Switzerland for our next gig which was at the coolest spot yet- Moods (appropriately named) By the way we are traveling in the smallest mini van with a rugged little  trailer attached to the back. Knees are breaking backs are twisted and we’re still managing to rock out! So we get to Basel, which is just an hour outside of Zurich and everyone’s feeling a little busted.  But what a different a nights sleep makes- we’re off to the club and the band is feeling better my energy is up and we are ready to have what I think is probably the best gig of the tour yet! Whew! The folks in Zurich were ready to have a good time- they came with their dancing shoes on and was ready for a call and response at a moments notice- You guys especially one dude in particular my new friend Oliver who was dancing his ass off! He and the rest of the crowd gave us so much energy it was insane. I’m on the floor we’re just rippin it up and the whole club is rockin!  We came back for an encore of some ole craziness- THANKS ZURICH for the energy and love!

So we have a few days off then we’re back on the road to Vienna (which will be the first time for us) and then back to finish it off in Basel our home away from home.  I can’t wait.
